The trees
Dozens of varieties, one patch of Cheshire.
Some varieties are for eating, some are only good for cider, and a few are here because somebody planted them years ago and we've never had the heart to take them out.
Between them they give us fruit across a long season, which is why the juice tastes slightly different from one pressing to the next. That's the point.
The orchard year
Four very different places, same field.
Spring
Blossom, bees and a lot of hoping the frost stays away.
Summer
Fruit setting, grass growing, benches filling up.
Autumn
Picking, pressing and the smell of apples everywhere.
Winter
Pruning, tidying and wassailing the trees awake.
Our apples don't have far to travel.
From the row to the press is a couple of hundred metres. From the press to your glass is up to you.
