Our story
Three generations, one Cheshire farm.
The Hewitt family has been at Boundary Farm, Dunham Massey, since 1938. Apples have been growing here far longer.
Apples have been associated with this ground since the mid-1800s. Kenneth and Eleanor Hewitt took on Boundary Farm in 1938, and the family has been here ever since.
Alan Hewitt developed the apple growing and, in 2008, new juice production. Chris Hewitt began planting cider apple varieties around 2010, and the first cider was fermented in 2012.
The idea for a barn where people could taste what the farm makes took shape during the Covid period. The Apple Barn opened in July 2021. Chris and Alison Hewitt are at the centre of the business today.

The Hewitt family arrives
Kenneth and Eleanor Hewitt take on Boundary Farm at Dunham Massey.
2008
Apple juice production grows
Alan Hewitt develops apple growing at the farm, and new juice production begins.
2010
Cider apples are planted
Chris Hewitt begins planting cider apple varieties across the orchard.
2012
The first cider
The first cider is fermented at Boundary Farm.
2021
The Apple Barn opens
An idea formed during the Covid period opens its doors in July 2021.

Chris and Alison Hewitt lead a working orchard that people come to visit, eat and drink at.

A Cheshire place, for Cheshire people.
Most of the people who come here live nearby, Dunham Massey, Altrincham, the villages round about. That's how we like it. The rest find us by accident and tend to come back.
